Watch Out for These Depression Symptoms among Seniors

watch-out-for-these-depression-symptoms-among-seniors

One misconception about depression is that it’s only a matter of choice for individuals, but nothing can be farther from the truth than that. Many aspects of a person’s life can be affected by depression, including their appetite, sleep patterns, and even physical health. Worst case scenario is that depression can lead to suicide.

In our many years of providing home care services in Colorado, we’re listing the common symptoms of depression we observed among our seniors:

  • Motivation, vitality, and self-worth are all lacking
Patients may worry about being a burden or experience emotions of worthlessness and self-loathing.
  • Aches and pains that don’t seem to be getting better
Senior depression may include physical aches, delayed mobility and speech as well as sleep difficulties, and memory loss.
  • Reduced interest in personal care, social activities, and other hobbies
Patients may become isolated from their social and recreational activities. Meals, medicine, and personal cleanliness may all be neglected if the patient chooses to do so.

Health issues, a lack of purpose, the recent loss of a loved one, and loneliness or isolation may all contribute to the development of senior depression. Don’t allow your elderly loved one to get depressed because of these circumstances.

ARISE HOME HEALTH CARE INC offers home health care in Aurora, Colorado for patients requiring a level of care that is filled with compassion and competence throughout their wellness journey.
